Quick Acoustic EP?
March 21st 2026 (but at like 1AM)
Okay hey what's up welcome. I have an idea that I'm stewing on and I wanna get it out and into a place bigger than my journal, in that this is being publicly shared.
When I learned about the existence of Bandcamp, I felt really inspired to make some music and release it. I specifically had in mind a project which I wanted to call "Cellphone Camera." I just wanted it to be fairly simple acoustic songs played on a rinky dinky guitar with simple lyrical and melodic ideas. It's hard to describe the idea for a music project that I came up with in high school that never turned out to be anything. But it's stuck in my mind.
I was browing the Melonland Forum yesterday and found this post about local bands and I love learning about smaller bands in random places, so I gave it a clickskie. In it, someone linked "dad sports" and I've been listening to this band all day. And when I really really dig something, sometimes I'll get the urge to make something exactly like it. That's what art is all about, seeing something, wishing you made it, then making something inspired by it. And this line of thinking got me on the thought of "Cellphone Camera" again.
The music is just bright and chill indie pop music on top of lightly electronic drums. It feels like music I could make. It almost sorta kinda feels like music I HAVE made before as Dog Woods. I know these don't sound super alike, but it feels like a similar vibes. Idk why I'm justifying myself. This is my blog. Point of this ramble is that I feel like want to make this. And above that, I feel like I CAN make this.
So that's where I get to the title of this post. I wanna see how much of an EP I can make in a short period of time. I wanna link up what I remember of the idea behind "Cellphone Camera" with the energy and feeling that "dad sports" gives me. I was gonna give myself 2 weekends to make something, but that feels kinda unrealistic. I think I might say 4 songs in 4 weeks. One song a week. That's doable for sure. Giving myself 4 entire weekends to work on music (and forcing myself to work on it) shouldn't be too big of an ask. When I was making Dog Woods stuff, I would clear through it relatively quickly. I could definitely record a whole song in a day. Mixing is more of a process, but that's what the week is for.
So yeah. Acoustic guitar centered EP with some electronic drums and other layered parts. I'm saying I'll have it done by April 12th. Don't know if I'll revive Dog Woods or just fully commit to this band name I came up with when I was like 16. Honestly, after typing all this out, it kinda feels right to stick to "Cellphone Camera." My younger self would be happy that I finally did it. Maybe I'll stylize it lowercase like a lot of indie artists do. Who knows? The possibilities are endless. Maybe I'll even not do it and then just make a post in a few weeks being like "yeah I didn't do it." That would be okay too. It's just a game. I hope I do it though. I want a fun musical outlet. I feel like I've had something bigger in mind when I've been writing stuff lately. I wanna write something with no consequences and one goal, and that's just to finish it. I'll make some album art. I'll watch a tutorial on how to master acoustic music. And I'll finish it.

Thanks for reading. I'll talk to you soon.
